PTFE

PTFE (polytetrafluorethylene) is a high-performance plastic from the fluoropolymers materials group, and is highly regarded in numerous application areas thanks to its versatile technical properties. It is almost universally resistant to chemicals, and covers temperature ranges from -200°C to +260°C. One of its major features is its non-stick characteristics, which mean that other substances, even adhesive substances, don’t stick to the surface, or are not wetted by liquid media. PTFE is non-toxic, making is suitable for use in the food, beverage, and pharmaceutical industry and is controlled by the relevant approvals (FDA, BfR, 3-A Sanitary, USP Class VI).

PTFE has excellent electrical insulation properties that are dependant on frequency and temperature. In addition, if specific operating conditions (e.g. explosive environments/ATEX) require electrical conductance, these products can also be made from electrically conductive material.

Its superior slide properties (lowest friction coefficient of all solid materials) mean that PTFE is also ideal for sliding bearing applications and sliding technology.

The physical properties can be adjusted by the addition of filling agents (compounding). The use of the ideal materials for each application enables specific adjustment to the technical requirements of the final product and optimization of the technical properties, for example:

  • Surface structure
  • Cold flow
